Students are asked to copy the grid lines onto their A4 piece of paper and copy box for box from the sheet. A good activity for scaling images and building confidence with portrait drawing, which can be used as a starting point for further exploration into Greek Mythology.

A tutorial guiding students through the creation of a digital illustration collage in the style of designer Tristan Eaton. The project was originally carried out in celebration of the Queen’s Jubilee but can be adapted to suit any portrait and subject matter.

Step by step guide for students to create hands on and digital responses to the designer Sven Pfrommer. Students begin by drawing citiscapes in an illustrative manner using fineliners and tipex. Abstract acrylic backgrounds are created before the two are imposed on each other. The slides include very basic written instructions of how to complete the piece using Photopea, but can be adapted to Photoshop.

Set of resources challenging students to design their own coffee cup sleeve in the style of artist Lei Xue. Xue mixes traditional Chinese Willow patterns with contemporary, pop art references. Students are asked to create their own take on this design. The set of sheets include instructions, examples and references for Lei Xue’s work. A Y7 example of the task and the coffee sleeve template. This task can be extended to develop the design and printed to actually create coffee cup wraps or reusable cups. Please note, this is a worksheet and template pack only. No presentation is included.

A project exploring Matisse’s works and his cut out style. Students link his technique to the upcoming Paris 2024 Olympic games, creating a contemporary minimal sports poster. Extending the technique, students progress onto the work of Bernardo Henning, who has influences of Matisse’s shapes and mark making within his designs. The project can be completed by hand, or digitally using Photoshop.

Set of 4 worksheets which encourage students to research into the life stories of artists. In the style of illustrator Liz Clements, students are to produce a portrait of the artist, before adding tattoos in her style of symbols and meanings relating to the artists life and works. The work sheets have an example in the style of Frida Kahlo, a blank Frida Kahlo and blank Jean Michel Basquait activity sheet. A project overview of how to develop the research into a display piece is also provided.

A full GCSE Graphic Communication project, guiding students through the creation of a retro mascot character using food and drink as a starting point. The project then has the choice of 5 briefs which students may select to build their project in a more personal manner. The scheme covers drawing and photography but does rely on access to Photoshop to complete most tasks.

Frida Kahlo artist research sheet, looking at the illustrator Liz Clements as an aid to researching into Kahlo’s life and story. Tattoos have been added in the style of Clements, which students will then need to research into and show understanding of what the symbols may represent. Extension to create a Liz Clements illustration, making Kahlo a more modern figure.

Creating patterned cultural tiles in the style of Jill Ricci. 2 x worksheets for students to create patterned tiles based on a chosen country. One sheet offers a shape for students to complete work in, cut around and place together as a class whilst the other can be extended into a Photoshop piece.

Presentation exploring the popular Asian shop house architecture of Singapore. Students are introduced to the style of architecture, consider why they are built in that way and what the various carvings may mean for the owner. Each student produces a sketched design of their own shop house using set criteria. They then simplify their design and produce their own lino cut print. Extension tasks allow students to explore graffiti in Hong Kong whilst adding backgrounds, or explore more collaborative pieces, as a class.
